I wish I were paid more so that I could open a First Direct bank account without having to pay. Ho hum.

Today’s been a little bit of a washout, after sleeping late this morning. I am quite childlike about my sleep - if I don’t get enough, or the timings are messed up, it throws me off course for the rest of the day. It was worth it though, as Craig and Sarah’s birthday party was much fun. I did my normal thing of retreating in to a corner with people I know, but I did chat to some new people - Sarah’s Lovely Co-worker A and his girlfriend were 2 such people. (Craig, introducing me: ‘And this is Nikki, A’s…umm, no, Sarah’s friend! Not A’s! You’ve never met!) I planned lunch meetings with Andrew, who will now be working near me 3 days a week which is mega exciting. On a related note, anyone work in the Southwark/Blackfriars/Southbank kind of area and fancy lunch occasionally?

I’ve promised to make Andrew a hat, so I am currently pootling round Ravelry, looking for nice ones for him. Forerunner is currently this one - I want to try knitting on circs, and this seems like a nice easy pattern :-)

The First 9 Days

The First 9 Days

Originally uploaded by nikki m.

So, along with the rest of the internet, I decided to have a go at 365. Keeping it low key, and not brave enough to do a portrait one or anything - at the moment, it’s just random images from my life, normally shot with a vaguely pretentious macro, as I am still not that good at photography, and i find it hides a multitude of sins.

This weekend has been *lovely*. Full of cuddles and tea and knitting and long rambling conversations with the boy. But now it’s Sunday night, and time to make dinner, change the bed and then snuggle down with yet another mug of tea, and this week’s QI on iPlayer.

Also, currently knitting with this wool in bright green and it’s making me happy. Something about the colour is providing a nice contrast to the bleak whiteness of the snow we’re currently experiencing. I plan this year to stretch my knitting abilities as far as I can and learn to knit things rather then just churn out scarves. Which are awesome and all that, but I need to learn more.

My hands are so dry right now that knitting is hard as the yarn catches on them :( They’re drinking up whatever cream I put on them, and still they’re horrible :(

Speaking of knitting, I’m going to the London Stitch and Bitch tomorrow night. Must be more confident in social situations.

Today has been spent pottering, tidying up, doing laundry and ironing while James does some work, and now he’s making me a yummy roast dinner, which shall be nommed in front of Top Gear. Although, The Simpsons Movie has just started, so maybe we’ll watch that…

Speaking of which, James pointed out something interesting in Dr Who on Friday night (btw - cried like a girl. Which I am of course.) When the…cactus people…rescued the Doctor, and rushed through the corridor with him strapped to a trolley, he shouts ‘Worst rescue ever!’ - this must be a Simpsons quotes that has truly passed through in to popular usage.

I watched a hell of a lot of 8 Simple Rules earlier. It’s cheesy and corny, but fun. I think James would disagree though.

I’ve started adding some of my favourite RSS feeds to a widget in my sidebar as well, if you fancy a look - look, just over there ::points frantically::

Also, why won’t my line breaks show up? :(

Looking forward

In the spirit of…everyone pretty much, I was going to do a retrospective but I started, and realised that on the whole, there’s not a huge amount I want to remember or record about last year. There were good bits, sure - Casper being born, leaving my job and getting one that makes me happy, Latitude - but there were also a lot of crap things - the first half of the year before I left my job was awful, and I lost my Grandma (okay, that was 2008, but the funeral was this year, so it’s going in this year), losing James’ Nan, who was like a grandmother to me, a lot of my friends having a horrible year…I could go on, but what’s the point? So, let’s start anew. Let’s learn from last year, and move forward in to this year.

This year I want to take my life and turn it upside down. I want to make changes that last forever. I want to make time for myself and look after myself more. I’m quietly confident that good things will happen - by chance and design.

Joy to the World!

This morning felt like proper winter - icy and cold, but bright and sunny. Love this type of weather :-D

In fact, I’m feeling rather happy all round at the moment. Life seems to be going okay, and December has so much planned that it has to be good. Christmas seemed to start this weekend as well - ice skating at the Natural History Museum with Rachel on Friday night and then Eri came over on Sunday afternoon and we made Christmas decorations while drinking mulled wine and watching Love Actually - which I think may be one of my favourite films ever.

Then last night was a WI meeting, where I joined the committee, which is good, and then this week, I have a birthday meal for Seb and birthday drinks for Rachel, and then a logistics reunuion on Thursday.
AND then, in a couple of weeks, we’re going to Robin Ince’s 9 Carols for Godless Children, and then it’s Dav(id), Milk and Cookies at Bush Hall, and then Christmas, and in the mean time I plan to drink my own bodyweight in mulled wine, and go sing Carols at an Advent service.

Yum and yay.

Good days

So, new blog design! And, I installed it pretty much by myself! LOOK AT THE BIRDY.

This weekend’s been nice. After a lie in, and a visit from Rachel to nab my oyster card before she went to discover dogs, walked in to town earlier today, in the sunshine, bought a gingerbread latte, came back, and sorted out the pile of laundry whilst catching up on some TV from this week and chilling out on the sofa. It’s been a bit of weird day, with a decision to make, what whilst it was easy, was still a little…bluh.

Is there anything better in the world then a bunny tongue?

tonight has mostly been about this: http://intelligence-test.net/part1/?m=2 It’s a pile of fun, and James and I managed to complete it, which makes us ‘genius’ apparently. Quotation marks theirs, not mine.

today has been spent quietly grumping, watching TV and internetting while James plays GTA. We’re now making a roast dinner, which will be eaten while watching The Restaurant, and The F Word. I did some washing, but the ironing still needs doing. I quickly cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, but they need doing properly, and we need to hoover. But you know what? It doesn’t matter one little bit. We needed a quiet day to regroup and spend some time together after a week apart, and sometimes that’s more important then a clean and tidy flat.
